Public Hearings about "Stalin's Crimes in Belarus" (Minsk)
October 26 2006, before the Day of Memory for Politically Repressed Victims, in Minsk, there were public hearings about "Stalin's Crimes in Belarus," organized by Belarus branch of International "Memorial," Belarus Association of Politically Repressed Victims and Belarus Popular Front.
The first public hearing was conducted on October 29, 2004. Over the past two years of 18 sessions, 15 historians' reports were listened to and 34 repressed people and their relatives gave evidence against Stalin's crimes.
According to independent historians, in 1920-1950, there were about 1 million inhabitants of Belarus who were repressed.
Participants of public hearings called upon Head of State of Belarus Republic:
- To promulgate and designate places of mass repression and burial places of the period 1920-1950, and call names of victims;
- To place a memorial for politically repressed victims of 1937-1941 in Kuropaty;
- To finish process of rehabilitation of terror victims;
- To create a uniform database of the citizens, repressed in Belarus in 1920-1950;
- To provide access to researchers for work in archives of KGB and Ministry of Internal Affairs;
- To prepare and issue regional Books of Memory of Soviet repression victims.
